Google groups, the new spamming grounds

I have gotten about a dozen e-mail messages from the various mailing lists I subscribe to hosted by Google. That is to say, I was formerly subscribed to them. Turning lemons into lemonade, I took this opportunity to unsubscribe from said lists.

Still, I wonder what the deal is. I assume Google has a crack team of anti-spam fighters, armed with the resources of a small, rich country. Must be some sophisticated techniques they are using. Or not. How spam works is one of those things that I am not that interested in. I love automation, but that waste of resources bums me out more than anything. So, meh.
