We got a Wii! That was news last week, and since then we now have four Wii-motes with nunchuks, five games, Wii Fit (purchased earlier today), and accessories to pimp out our system.

The games are Wii Sports (came with the system), the Wario game that was part of the bundle, two DDR games (so we have two dance pads), and Mario Party 8!

The two games that get played the most are Wii Sports and Mario Party, and both almost always have four players playing. We are loving it, and it makes the PS3 look pretty sad. The first night we got it at least three of us couldn’t lift our arms the next day due to Wii Boxing, which is as adorable and fun as its real-life counterpart is barbaric. ^_^

The PS3, to put it bluntly, has been mostly left alone since the Wii came in, not doubt already feeling the stirrings of lifelong therapy sessions, attempting to piece together the feelings of abandonment to when its little brother came home and we all stopped paying attention.

One thing that I did, after talking to my brother about online gaming, is decide to give him my physical copy of Burnout Paradise so I could buy a copy from the PS store. It was a three gig download, and you can imagine how awesome I felt when I saw it at Fry’s for ten dollars less than I paid for it at home (it is a Greatest Hit now). On top of that, I can’t use my old save game…

I have a lot to say about the interfaces and control mechanics of both consoles now that I have had time to play with both. However, I will probably post my observations over at Game Notes. Someone has to use that blahg.

We’re finally able to announce that our latest free downloadable Burnout pack bikes will be out 18th September!!!

It’s tough to give specific dates on downloadable content, because we don’t know for certain until the last minute. But hey, we’re really excited about bringing bikes to Burnout, so we’re going to take a chance and tell you that we’re aiming for September 18 – that’s this coming Thursday!

There is more details on that post, but nothing new. The question is, get it now, or wait until the game is released on the PSN as a downloadable game?

The Motorcycle update for Burnout Paradise has a date, September 18th, 2008. How will the introduction of human models affect crashing? Continue reading →

PlayStation.Blog just posted that motorcycles will be added on September 18th. Yay!

I had some reservations going into Burnout Paradise. It doesn’t have the crash events from Burnout Revenge, and I was disappointed to the point where I almost took it back. I am glad I kept at it and played online.

The Freeburn Challenges are something that I had never imagined. Basically, they are a set of challenges that up to eight players do together. Some of them are based on locations, which is great because it brings everyone in the city to one place. Then there are individual versus coop challenges. So, one challenge would be for you to achieve a total of ten seconds of airtime, and the coop would have everyone combined achieve 120 seconds of airtime. Good stuff!

The one thing I am waiting for with the motorcycles, besides the day/night mode, is how they will deal with crashing. All the cars are empty, no passengers. It doesn’t detract from the game for me, but now we will have a person on the back, and that seems weird.

Anyhow, I was going to hold off from recommending this until it is on the PSN as a downloadable game. Now I suggest that one get it now and sell the disc later. ^_^

I got Burnout Paradise! And then it didn't work! And then it did! Is the PS3 going back to Gamestop already? Continue reading →

Today I picked up a copy of Burnout Paradise. I am a huge fan of this franchise, as it awards me for doing what I do in every other racing game: cause huge and spectacular pile-ups/explosions.

I waited until after midnight to pop it in and play, I needed a nap. When I finally put the disc in nothing happened. The game icon didn’t appear on the XMB. Bummed, I put Soul Calibur IV back in. No show.

Turning to the internets I found that this is a common problem. Sucks.

Not really having anything else to do, I put in the first disc of Firefly. It showed up under the video menu. So I put in SCIV again. It showed up. And now I am updating the Burnout Paradise software.

So… in light of my horrendous experience with Apple and DHL, I am going to pay very close attention to what the PS3 is doing. If it drops the ball even once more, it is going back to Gamestop. It just isn’t worth the pain to deal with another electronics fiasco.
